The GAVI Alliance
An alliance of all the major stakeholders in immunization, the GAVI Alliance includes among its partners developing country and donor governments, the World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF, the World Bank, the vaccine industry in both industrialized and developing countries, research and technical agencies, NGOs, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. It is estimated that more than 1.7 million early deaths will have been prevented as a result of support by GAVI up to the end of 2005. GAVI's efforts are critical to achieving the Millennium Development Goal on child health, which calls for reducing childhood mortality by two-thirds by 2015. Of the more than 10 million children who die before reaching their fifth birthday every year, 2.5 million die from diseases that could be prevented with currently available or new vaccines

As a Network of Centres of Excellence, CANVAC, the Canadian Network for Vaccines and Immunotherapeutics, is a unique network of 75 of the most highly recognized Canadian research teams specializing in the fields of immunology, virology, and molecular biology, who are affiliated with 21 Canadian universities and research institutes. CANVAC is working in collaboration with 23 corporate partners, as well as interested government agencies and several patient and consumer groups, towards the development of safe and effective vaccines and immunotherapies to prevent and treat diseases related to HIV and hepatitis C virus, emerging viral infections and cancer. Université de Montréal hosts CANVAC. www.canvac.ca

The International Vaccine Institute is founded on the belief that health in developing countries can be dramatically improved by the development, introduction and use of new and improved vaccines and that these vaccines should be developed through a dynamic interaction among science, public health, and business. The International Vaccine Institute will be a center of science for the public interest where this dynamic interaction can take place through research, training, technical assistance, service provision, and information dissemination.

The Albert B. Sabin Vaccine Institute is a non-profit public organization dedicated to saving lives by stimulating the development and distribution of vaccines throughout the world. The Institute is committed to continuing the work of Dr. Albert Sabin, who envisioned the enormous potential of vaccines to prevent deadly diseases, by:
- Awarding grants for cutting-edge research in vaccines and innovative ways to administer them
- Identifying new vaccine research opportunities
- Building bridges between leaders in science, industry, and government to share resources and ideas on how to get the vaccines to the people who need them most
- Advocating sound public policy toward vaccine research and immunization
- Educating the public and media about the benefits of vaccine
- Honoring those who have made exemplary contributions to the field of vaccinology.

Over 100 years of vaccine experience in the public domain
The Netherlands Vaccine Institute (NVI) was established in January 2003 as the result of the merger between the government-run vaccine production unit, SVM, and the Vaccine Division of the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM). This new institute reflected more than 100 years of extensive knowledge and experience gained through research and production.
The NVI is one of the few government-based vaccine institutes left in the world. The Dutch government opted for an NVI that would be sufficiently independent of commercial vaccine suppliers in the case of vaccine shortages.

Current HIV Research aims to cover all the latest and outstanding developments of HIV research. We invite comprehensive review articles and novel and pioneering work in the basic and clinical fields on all areas of HIV research, including virus replication and gene expression, HIV assembly, virus-cell interaction, viral pathogenesis, epidemiology and transmission, anti-retroviral therapy and adherence, drug discovery, the latest developments in HIV/AIDS vaccines and animal models, mechanisms and interactions with AIDS related diseases, and prevention of viral infection. Each issue of the journal contains a series of timely in-depth reviews and original research written by leaders in the field covering a range of current topics on HIV research. Periodically, the journal will invite guest editors to devote an issue on a particular area of HIV research of great interest that increases our understanding of the virus and its complex interaction with the host.
