The survey

The survey

Terrapinn is always looking at how we can best address the key issues facing our delegates in today’s dynamic life sciences arena. There is no better way of achieving this than putting bold questions to the people that matter – your audience, our delegates.

We contacted over 20,000 past, present and future delegates in the pharmaceutical and life science industries. We posed a number of searching questions to gather a better understanding of the key issues they are facing regarding their potential partnering and M&A deals in the future.

Here are some of the results and what they are telling us;

71% of companies surveyed are and will be involved in partnering in 2007.

This is again an indication of the level of interest in partnering and the importance of partnering to the life science and pharmaceuticals industry

Of these companies, 68% are involved in just licensing agreements and 26% in a M&A and licensing mix.

The number of mergers and acquisitions within the industry have increased substantially in the last couple of years and represent over a third of the deals in progress. These trends will be explored in detail throughout the conference.

Of the organizations involved in present and future partnering deals, 74% of companies partner with biotechs, 59% with pharmaceutical companies and 52% with universities

Over the last year or so we are seeing a trend swinging back to early-stage licensing agreements as organizations look to build their pipelines for their long-term future

Over 80% of companies are interested in working in Europe and North America in the future, there was also significant interest in Asia and Africa. This shows the strength of these historically important regions and also indicated that we will attract delegates from further afield looking to showcase their products to the already established marketplace

76% of companies surveyed would like a better understanding of how to invest in emerging markets. Both biotechs and bigger pharmaceutical companies will be attending to learn from the experience of those who have achieved successful emerging market investment.

43% of companies surveyed were particularly interested in oncology, 40% were interested in vaccines, 39% in antibodies and a further 31% in drug delivery.  These are all issues which will be dealt with in the conference – if you have experience in working with these mediums you should be sponsoring and speaking.

67% of companies would like a better understanding of the factors that drive partnering.  When asked to expand on their partnering issues, 22% of companies had issues with IP diligence models, 14% with deal structuring, 14% with early stage opportunities, 11% with funding, a further 11% with emerging markets and 7% had issues finding suitable partners.

Do you have any experience in handling these issues? Can you help these companies achieve their partnering goals? If so, Life Science Alliances World is where you need to be showcasing your experience.

58% of companies who aren't currently partnering would be very interested to hear how to create a relevant and profitable partnership. 25% were undecided but would like to learn more.

This speaks for its self – the event will be full of organisations already reaping the benefits of partnering and looking for new and successful avenues of growth as well as those not yet sure of how to proceed – it is your opportunity to grow your business and forge long lasting and profitable business relationships with these organisations.
