    We are delighted to announce our official Scientific Advisory Board for this year’s event.
 
The World Vaccines Congress Washington was developed with input from a team of internationally recognised professionals in the vaccines community. Terrapinn would like to thank the following members of the scientific advisory board for help in creating this congress.

Dr Lance Gordon
Former President and Chief Executive Officer Vaxgen

Dr Gordon has 25 years of experience in the industry, developing both vaccine products and companies. Prior to joining VaxGen, Dr Gordon served as Chief Executive Officer and a member of the Board of Directors of two vaccine companies, OraVax (now Acambis, Inc.) and North American Vaccines (now Baxter BioScience). At OraVax, Dr Gordon secured a contract to develop, manufacture, store, and manage a stockpile of smallpox vaccine for the Centers for Disease Control.
 
Kim Bush

Kim Bush joined Baxter International in 1978 and currently holds the position of President, Baxter BioScience, Vaccines Division. He and his team are responsible for the commercial management of Baxter’s vaccine business on a global basis. Prior to holding this position, Kim held several Baxter senior management positions including, President, Hyland Immuno Europe, President, Biotech Europe and President of Baxter’s Fenwal Division. The Biomedical Division of Allegiance Healthcare Corporation.
 
Dr Una Ryan

Dr Ryan is President and Chief Executive Officer of AVANT Immunotherapeutics, Inc. She is also Research Professor of Medicine at the Whitaker Cardiovascular Institute of Boston University School of Medicine, serves on the Whitehead Institute Board of Associates and is Chair of the Massachusetts Biotechnology Council.
 
Dr Allan Jarvis

Allan Jarvis is currently Senior Vice President, Corporate Development at sanofi pasteur, a division of Aventis Pharmaceuticals. In that capacity he is responsible for the business development, strategic planning and process efficiency and cost effectiveness functions.  He oversees AvP’s worldwide Corporate Development function and is responsible for managing the company’s growth through alliances, joint ventures, partnerships, mergers, acquisitions, and the licensing of products and technology.
 
Dr Daniel Tusé

Daniel Tusé is responsible for business development functions and for helping co-ordinate strategic planning and product development programmes.  Before joining LSBC, he was Assistant Director of the Life Sciences Division at SRI International. Prior to that, he held a number of research management positions.
 
Jacques-Francois Martin

Jacques-François Martin has spent the essence of his career in the pharmaceutical, biological and life sciences industries. He set up Parteurop S.A., as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, he helps establish start-up companies by leveraging innovation from French and foreign institutions. From 2000 to January 2005, Martin held the position of President of The Vaccine Fund.
 
Ruth Levine
Director of Programmes and Senior Fellow

Ruth Levine is a health economist with 15 years of experience working on health and family planning financing issues in Latin America, Eastern Africa, the Middle East, and South Asia. At CGD, she sets priorities and manages programs that use research to address practical policy challenges; she manages the Global Health Policy Research Network.  Before joining the center, Ruth designed, supervised, and evaluated health sector loans at the World Bank and the Inter-American Development Bank.
 
Dr Ronald Ellis
Senior Vice President, Research & Development
AVANT Immunotherapeutics
 
Ronald Ellis joined AVANT in January 2006 as Senior Vice President, Research & Development. He spent 14 years at Merck Research Laboratories, where he became responsible for preclinical vaccine research and was co-chairman of collaborations in developing pediatric combination vaccines with partner companies. He joined Astra Research Center Boston in 1996 and directed their vaccine program.  He then joined BioChem Pharma in 1998 to set up a Boston-area vaccine development subsidiary, and continued as Senior Vice President Development through purchases by Shire Pharmaceuticals in 2001 and then by ID Biomedical in September 2004.
